Prof. Kun Yang
Zhejiang Ocean University, China
Prof. Kun Yang, head of the Ocean Connectivity Lab of Zhejiang Ocean University, has 10+ years’ project experience on land-based maritime communications. He received his Ph.D from Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Trondheim, Norway in 2013. In addition, he was a visiting scholar at the University of Southern California and Eurecom (France) in 2011 and 2012, respectively. From 2015 to 2016, He was with IFSTTAR as PostDoc and worked on mmw channel sounding for regional train in an EU Rail2shift lighthouse project. AS one of the world’s maritime 5G pioneers, he led the world’s first maritime 5G project with the title of “LTE, WIFI and 5G Massive MIMO Communications in Maritime Propagation Environments” with a total budget of NOK 13.6 million. His team invented a dedicated maritime 5G solution promoted by the world’s top 5G massive MIMO technology website (http://ma-mimo.ellintech.se/2018/09/06/massive-mimo-for-maritime-communications/), which is hosted by the team of Professor Erik G. Larsson (IEEE fellow in Linköping University), one of the global top 5G Massive MIMO research team. The project partners include Kongsberg, Telia, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Sintef, the University of Southern California, KU Leuven University etc. His research areas include land-based maritime communication, radio channel measurement and modeling, and massive MIMO technology. He has published more than 40 SCI/EI papers, and won the Best Paper Award at the International Conference on Wireless Communications and Signal Processing, as well as the title of the annual doctoral representative of the Department of Electronic Communications of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. He has been invited as a speaker in both international industrial and academic conferences such as the 5G World Summit, Asia Pacific Maritime, Autonomous Ship Technology Symposium, Asia-Pacific Microwave Conference and so on. In addition his work has been widely reported in the well-known national and international media such as Bloomberg, Nasdaq, International Shipping Magazine, Digital Norway, China Ship Inspection, Yangtze River Daily, etc.
